If you're just starting out and already have a few pastel pencils, then start with those! I like to use a lot of the Faber Castell Pitt Pastel pencils and add a few from other brands for some courses. You don't have to use exactly what I have, but it will make following along with me a bit easier for you.

Yes! Every time I pick up a new pencil, the pencil number will appear on the screen for extra clarity. The pencil numbers are also listed by each step in the PDF guide, too.

No! A pastel pencil is very different to a coloured pencil. If you have something like the Luminance or Polychromos then these are not pastel pencils and won't work the same, either.

A pastel pencil is chalk based, whereas, a coloured pencil is wax based. Because of this, the pencils need to be used very differently to each other. 

While I think any pastel pencil brand is a good place to start (or at least use up what you have first!), paper is different. You'll need to buy the Clairefontaine Pastelmat, it really is the best in class.

I know a lot of beginners don't want to splash out on this, but other papers are completely different. This means that it is far more difficult to draw on the other papers and your results won't be as good. I go into this in the Fundamentasl Course, so watch that to see the difference.

You can buy the pastelmat paper, instead of the board, which is cheaper. I suggest starting off with the sand colour, or, light blue. 

You could also call a course a project, or a subject. Each different subject (i.e, the tiger, the leopard, the hare etc), is its own course. Each course will take you through, step by step, the process for creating that animal or flower. 

Each course will see you create one completed piece of work. In the membership, you get access to every course I have made so it's the most cost effective way to enjoy my courses.
